I’ve recently been starting to collaborate with a friend and now colleague of mine. I find her hugely inspiring and I’m always curious to talk to people that inspire me to find out how they see the world.
What struck me as we talked is that she doesn’t let doubt or fear stop her from starting. I can see in the past this has stopped me in my tracks. What was beautiful to understand was she felt fear and doubt as she was creating and putting herself and her business out into the world, but she carried on.
For her the fear and doubt weren’t the stop signs, they were just her buddies riding shot gun as she went on her adventure. She may not have thought of them as buddies, but they weren’t going to stop her adventure.
I shared that insight with another friend and she affirmed that she too had taken a job with a huge amount of fear and trepidation of whether she’d be able to do it. And her ‘buddies’ also stayed for the journey for a while. And then one day, without a goodbye they were no longer passengers as she went forward.
I think that’s how life and change happens. We get brave and move forward and don’t let the sounds inside our head dominate and stop us.
And being brave doesn’t mean, to me, walking a tightrope without a net. To me bravery is welcoming the fear and doubt. Seeing them for what they are, they’re just emotions that will be with you until they’re not.
I use The Sedona Method as one way to help me let go of much of my doubt and resistance, and even then I sometimes begin with some doubt and fear. And that’s OK, I’ve survived all my worse fears up until now and I think I’m going to be OK with the next batch too.
